Experiencing anxiety can be a scary event for people. We need to remember that we will feel numerous different feelings throughout our day and that tomorrow is a new day. One thing that I have learned about emotions is that feelings are fickle and are subject to change. Some feelings are easier to live in than others. There are also some that can be difficult to work through. Working as an Addictions Counselor I witnessed many clients struggling with feelings of anxiety and the symptoms of anxiety in their lives. Often these feelings of anxiety would immobilize them from moving forward in their lives.
Getting Unstuck
We have to make a choice to work through our emotion of anxiety. Making this choice means that we are mindful of the symptoms and have a game plan on what we are going to do when we start to experience these symptoms . Part of the game plan is understanding what anxiety is and then learning different tools to cope with the anxiety.
What is Anxiety?
Anxiety is your body’s natural response to stress. It’s a feeling of fear or apprehension about what’s to come. We get into trouble when we don’t have the tools to work through these feelings.

Prayer
I want to encourage you to end your scripture reading time with prayer. Prayer is one of our most valuable tools.
Father God,
Thank you for the gift of Your Word. I ask that You put a hunger and a desire for it, deep within me. Thank You for the truth of Your Word. I ask that it will set me free of the fear and the anxiety that has risen up within me. Anxiety has tried to steal joy, peace, and love out of my life. It has robbed me of healthy relationships and opportunities to move forward in my life. I have decided to heed Your voice. You have instructed me to not fear and to seek Your face. Today I am releasing this fear and anxiety to You. I pray that You will help me to not pick it up again.
Thank You Lord that freedom is found in You. I am grateful for the gift of Your grace and mercy. May You continue to lead and guide me in all of Your ways. I ask for knowledge and the wisdom that is needed to walk in Your knowledge. Give to me Your discernment and help me be brave and courageous.
Thank you for Your Word and the truth that is in it. May my thoughts and actions glorify Your name and honor You. In Jesus’ name ~~~ Amen
Keep Pressing Forward
Learning to work through our anxiety in healthy ways is challenging. God has given us so many promises that can help guide us through this challenge. Don’t grow weary while overcoming the challenge of experiencing anxiety – change will likely not happen overnight. Keep pressing forward. Baby steps will get us to our destination just as big steps will.
“So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.” Galatians 6:9 NLT
