Hello Friends
Have you ever felt overwhelmed with life? Has life thrown you so many different curve balls that you can’t even juggle them any longer and they end up all dropping to the floor? Do you have more responsibilities than you can handle? Is your “to do list” so daunting that you give up even before you begin?
Let me reassure you — you are not alone. Too often we allow life to overwhelm us and often paralyze us in our tracks. When you are overwhelmed and you don’t work through the feelings you do yourself harm. You are more prone to stress and the adverse effects of stress. If you sit in your feelings of being overwhelmed it can lead to anxiety, physical sickness and even depression. It can also cause you to either fight (react in anger) or flight (avoid the issues altogether), both which are unhealthy coping mechanisms.
I wish that I could tell you that I have the “cure” to eliminate this feeling and that if you take this “cure” that you will never feel overwhelmed again. The truth is you are going to experience feeling overwhelmed throughout your life. However, you do not have to sit in it and get stuck.
Getting Unstuck From Feeling Overwhelmed
I have learned that I can’t live my life based on what I am feeling. Our feelings are in a constant flux, they are fickle and they are always changing. Have you ever been in a happy, carefree mood and you get a disturbing phone call? Did your feelings change? Have you ever been sad and disappointed and you go to church or watch a comedy on television? Did your feelings change? Has there been a time when you were feeling peace and serenity and a memory comes to you about something that you have already let go of? You sit in your memory and recall all the specifics of the event – hurt – disappointment – anger? Did your feelings change?
We tend to feel many different feelings throughout our day. Our feelings are usually based on our experiences and our own thinking. Some of the feelings are rational and some are irrational. Our thought life can often be consumed with irrational thoughts which then leads to feelings that can be overwhelming. If we sit in our feeling of being overwhelmed it can immobilize us. When our feelings start to immobilize us we end up getting stuck in those feelings. This then prevents us from living in the fullness of life that God has for us.
It’s A Choice
There comes a time in our lives that we have to make a choice to work through our emotion of feeling overwhelmed. If we don’t make this choice we risk not being able to move forward in our lives. We need to remember that not making a choice is still making a choice. God doesn’t want us consumed with our emotions. He doesn’t desire for us to carry such heavy burdens. God never meant for us to travel our life journey alone.
Have you allowed God to write your “to do list”? Or, are you the only one making the choices of what goes on it? Have you sought God when things go crazy in your life and you can no longer juggle all the curve balls? Or, do you try to solve it all independently? Have you said “yes” to people when you have no peace and deep down know you should of said, “no”?
The Bible calls Satan our enemy. It also calls him a thief. God gives us the following encouragement in His Word:
”The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance [to the full, till it overflows].” John 10:10 ~ Amp
What Are You Going To Choose?
Are you going to listen to the one who wants to steal peace from you? Who wants to kill your hopes and dreams? Are you going to allow satan to continue to destroy your relationships, your serenity and your destiny?
Isn’t it time to stop listening to the lies and the irrational thoughts that at times consumes you? Are you willing to surrender your “to do lists” and ask God to rewrite them? How about surrendering your independence and making the choice to trust and lean on God?
Proverbs 3:5-6 ~ “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”
What Does God Say About Feeling Overwhelmed?
God wants you to enjoy life. He desires to walk this journey with you. It is truly up to us whether we choose to walk this journey with Him or walk it alone.
God’s Word has many truths that can help us when we are feeling overwhelmed. We will never know these truths unless we spend some time opening up our bibles and discovering them for ourselves. The Bible promises us that behind every truth – there is freedom.
John 8:32 ~ “And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

Isaiah 41:10 ~ “‘Do not fear [anything], for I am with you; Do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, be assured I will help you; I will certainly take hold of you with My righteous right hand [a hand of justice, of power, of victory, of salvation].’” – AMP

1 John 4:4 ~ “Little children (believers, dear ones), you are of God and you belong to Him and have [already] overcome them [the agents of the antichrist]; because He who is in you is greater than he (Satan) who is in the world [of sinful mankind].” – AMP

will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” – NIV

Matthew 6:25-27 ~ “That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?“ – NLT
Philippians 4:8 ~ “Finally, believers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable and worthy of respect, whatever is right and confirmed by God’s word, whatever is pure and wholesome, whatever is lovely and brings peace, whatever is admirable and of good repute; if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think continually on these things [center your mind on them, and implant them in your heart].” – AMP
Joshua 1:5 ~ “No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.” NIV

Romans 8:35-37 ~ “Who then can ever keep Christ’s love from us? When we have trouble or calamity, when we are hunted down or destroyed, is it because he doesn’t love us anymore? And if we are hungry or penniless or in danger or threatened with death, has God deserted us?No, for the Scriptures tell us that for his sake we must be ready to face death at every moment of the day—we are like sheep awaiting slaughter; but despite all this, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ who loved us enough to die for us.” – TLB

Prayer
I want to encourage you to end your scripture reading time with prayer.
Father God,
Thank you for the gift of Your Word. I pray that You will plant it deep within my heart. Forgive me please for the times that I have neglected it and also for neglecting You. I have gotten caught up in trying to accomplish all items on my “to do list”. When I sit back and look at it, I realize that I never consulted You with what You would want me to put on it. This has caused me to feel overwhelmed and “too busy” to even read Your Word and sometimes even to pray. Lord, I surrender this “list” to You and I ask for You to rewrite it. Help me to say “no” to things that I need to say “no” to.
There are times that I have allowed the cares of this world to be my sole focus. I have tried to solve all the issues that arise in my life independently. Forgive me for not coming to You and trusting in You. Help me to seek You first in times of trouble and hardship. May I remember the promises that You have given me and trust that You will never leave me nor forsake me.
Thank You for all the truths that You have spoken to me. Help me to live in them as I trust in Your promise – the truth will set me free.
—- In Jesus’ name ~~~ Amen
Keep Pressing Forward
Surrendering our “to do lists” and our “independence” to God is not always easy, especially if we have been holding onto them for a long time. Learning to let go and trust God can be challenging and it doesn’t happen overnight. It is a process that you must commit to. I want to encourage you to keep seeking God and connecting to Him. Allow Him to be your scheduler and allow Him to carry the burdens that you were never meant to carry.
My prayer for you: Lord, I ask that you embrace your daughter/son with Your peace. Show them what it means to be still and know that You are God. Thank You for leading them to read this post. I pray that the truth of Your Word will set each one of them free from all that ensnares them. ~ Amen
