One of my favorite things to do is read books. I always have at least one (well more like at least 10 on the go at any given time). Both fiction and non-fiction is read on a daily basis. My “Too Be Read” (TBR) pile has multiplied many times over and it doesn’t seem to get smaller. At this point of my life I am ok with it and my hubby doesn’t seem to mind either. In fact he often will say — “you could have worse addictions”.
Due to my love (ok – obsession) with reading I have decided to add a book review section on my website. My hope is to share with you my thoughts on some of the books that I have read. Initially I was only going to review non-fiction books as I believed it fit better with my desire to help women press towards greater spiritual, emotional, mental and physical health. However, with some thought I have decided to include reviewing of fiction books. One of my favorite self care techniques is reading fiction.
Love Life Again: Finding Joy When Life Is Hard
After 25 years of marriage, author Tracie Miles found herself in circumstances beyond her control. Her husband unexpectedly walked out on her and she was left to pick up the pieces. She shares openly about how she struggled with the hurt, grief and changes in her life. Tracie went on to cling to God and allowed Him to come in and do healing in her life.
Tracie begins this books journey by stating, “Today can be the first day of the rest of your abundant, joy filled life”. She showed me the importance of not getting stuck in my circumstances and to put my focus on God and what He is doing in my life. The truth is we can’t change the circumstances that we often find ourselves in, but we can change how we respond to them.
You don’t have to have had your spouse walk out on you or a divorce in the past or present to glean from this book. Let’s face it – we all have had disappointments, heartaches, and circumstances beyond our control try and take us down. If you are a woman and have walked through pain, heartache, disappointment and/or betrayal – then this book is for you. If you are currently walking a journey of unexpected disappointments and hurt – then this book is also for you.
Not only does Tracie encourage her readers with her personal experiences and how she has walked thorough them, she also shares plenty of scriptures to encourage us with. She encourages us to “love life again” – even when it is hard.
The part that I loved the most from this book was how she ended every chapter with a practical call to action. She made doable challenges to help us apply the tips that she shared. By doing these challenges I was able to embrace and love my life to a deeper degree. They brought more joy into my life and many of them have become a natural part of my daily living.
We only get one life to live – from this book I was reaffirmed to not take it for granted. I rate it a 9/10.
