Hello friend
Today’s scripture writing brought me to new awareness. The wise men went and offered their treasures – things (gifts) that held extreme value to them. Each one brought something as an offer of worship. It made me ponder what I was currently giving to God in regards to my treasures. Was I worshipping Him through gifts? Was I giving to Him the things that held extreme value to me?
“After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.”
~~ Matthew 2:9-11
What do I have that has extreme value?
This question makes me really sit and think. God’s extreme value and my extreme value most likely has two different definitions. God isn’t really interested in my possessions, is He? They don’t benefit Him in any way – unless He is wanting me to give them to others. As I sat with this the following prayer flowed out of me:
Don’t Have Much
I don’t have much to give You Lord — my brokenness — my tears — my hurt. Not sure if that is even adequate. Can I worship You by giving You my brokenness? — My vulnerability? — My authentic self? Can I worship You by giving You my heart — as well as the aches in my heart? How does giving You my brokenness equate to being something of extreme value? Can my brokenness when given to You be a sign of worship?
Worship
Worship isn’t always about the “feel goods”. It isn’t always about the “warm fuzzies” — the dancing — the raising of hands — the music. Worship isn’t always about BLESSINGS or the feeling of being blessed. Sometimes (often) the blessings in Worship don’t appear to be blessings at all.
Worship is being Real – Authentic. Whether I am messed up – not messed up — whether I have the energy or am worn out. Worship is not really something I do because I feel like doing it. Worship is something I do because I choose to do it – no matter what circumstances I am currently in.
The first choice I need to make when giving the gift of worship to God is to — show up. Sometimes that is the only gift that I have to give. God isn’t looking at my outward appearance or even the situation that I am finding myself in. God is looking for my willingness to worship. Am I willing to give Him something of extreme value — my worship? — even in the tough times of my life.
“Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.”
~~Psalm 42:11

My Response To God – A Form Of Worship
Lord, You say we have treasures in our hearts. My heart is a bit broken right now — but I’m beginning to see treasures in the brokenness. It’s not that I haven’t been open to hear Your voice. I long to hear it — I search for it. It’s more of —— am I going to worship You in the silence? In the wilderness? In the brokenness that is in my heart?
Everyday I get hundreds of choices that I can make. Even getting out of bed is a choice. One of those choices is – am I going to give You the gift of worship? Even when my heart is troubled?
I understand that worship isn’t just about singing uplifting songs that make my heart feel good. Worship is about putting You first and being grateful for who You are. Worship is about honoring You – giving thanks. It is an act of faith, of trust and gratitude.
Today I am worshipping You with a “YES” to all of that.
Even in the silence — the wilderness — the brokenness — I CHOOSE to WORSHIP YOU! —— this is one of the greatest gifts that I can currently bring You.
Worshipping You — with all that I have — my heart —— even in the state that it is in.
An Invitation To Worship
Today you get to choose. Are you going to choose to give a gift to God that holds extreme value? No matter the circumstances that you find yourself in today – whether everything is going smoothly in your life, or you are experiencing some brokenness and are struggling? Are you going to choose to give God your gift of Worship? —— if yes —— then pray with me….
Prayer of Worship
Father God, we come to you today in various conditions. Some of us are on the mountain top and our cups are full of blessings. Today we choose to worship You and thank You for all the gifts that You have given to us. Some of us are broken and bruised, feeling like we are isolated and in the wilderness. Today we choose to Worship You through our pain. We thank You that You have promised to never leave us nor forsake us. Help us to not be led by our feelings but to be led by the truth of Your Word. We ask that a You help us to trust.
No matter where we are in our life’s journey we pray that You will lead and guide us and help us to honor You daily. You are loved by us dear God and we are grateful that You not only chose us, but that You walk with us. In Jesus’ Name ~~~ Amen
