Christian Testimony -Alex- Restored From Addiction

Hello friend

A few weeks ago I felt God leading me to start sharing Christian Testimonies on my website. It was confirmed to me when I put a request out to people that I know and had an overwhelming response.

Everyone’s Christian Testimony is powerful and is relatable to various different people. Giving your personal testimony is a way to share God’s redeeming love, grace and mercy with others, by explaining your personal salvation experience. It gives others an example of how God changes lives. It can also encourage others to continue to press forward in their lives.

I have known Alex for many years now and I now have the honor of calling her a friend.  Her story is a testament of God’s grace and how He can restore a family that once was severely broken due to addiction.

Alex’s Christian Testimony

My name is Alex. I am a recovered Crystal Meth addict, an alcoholic and a daughter of Jesus Christ. I spent 13 of my 28 years in the deep throws of addiction. Addiction is powerful. It made me become a liar and a thief. I was feeling hopeless and worthless. I was homeless, and terrified to be stuck forever. Change, I believed wasn’t possible for someone like me.

Lost So Much

I was a prostitute and suffered through sexual abuse. In the end I narrowly escaped death. I have been to places no one should ever go, and done things I thought were absolutely unforgivable just to get another fix. Addiction took away my children because I wasn’t a safe person for them to be around. My family walked away because they couldn’t bare to watch addiction kill their child. It left me broken and feeling very alone. Change, was this fairy tale that I heard other people — who had it all together — talk about. I believed happiness was a nice idea but that it couldn’t be for me. Then something happened and I am alive today to share with you just how wrong I was.

Not Alone

When I decided that I didn’t want to live this life anymore, Jesus was there to save me. He filled me with hope and gave me strength to overcome all of the darkness. He forgave me and told me I deserved forgiveness from myself. When I decided I was truly ready to trust Him, He brought back my children and my family. My hope was restored and He blessed me with real joy and a desire to live. He sent people to show me that things CAN change. Circumstances can be terrible, but that didn’t make me a terrible person.

A Life Restored

We do recover, if we are willing to allow the transformation. The gifts Jesus has left me with in my recovery far outway all of the terrible things that happened in my past. I am now married with four beautiful children who will never have to remember their mom —  the addict. Without Jesus, none of this was possible. He is the restorer of lost souls. He is light in the places that are so dark. Jesus changed my life. Maybe accepting him can change yours.

Love your sister in Christ,

Alex.

Personal Relationship With Jesus Christ

Alex had an encounter with Jesus Christ and it changed her life. I have had the honor of witnessing this with my own eyes. God has given her so many gifts and Alex has chosen to utilize these gifts to help others. It is a delight to see her blossom and grow in the Lord.  I appreciate how she has encouraged others to have a relationship with Jesus Christ as she knows the abundance of His love He has for all of us.

Accept His Invitation?

God desires a relationship with you too. You don’t have to clean yourself up and get your life in order before you enter this relationship. He takes us as we are and He loves us and He cleans us up. A relationship with Him starts with a tug in our heart and yearning to know Him better. He is offering us salvation, forgiveness, acceptance, grace, mercy, love, kindness and guidance.

I am inviting you to pray the “prayer of salvation”. This is the most important prayer that we will ever pray. In this prayer we acknowledge that we are ready to trust Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. When we pray the prayer of salvation, we’re letting God know we believe His Word is true and we are inviting Him to take the lead of our lives.

Romans 10:9-10 ~ “if you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.  For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.” Biblegateway.com

Prayer

Dear God,

Today I come before you and admit that I am a sinner. I know that there is nothing that I can do that will save myself. Many times I have done things that I know didn’t please you. I have been selfish and lived my life in selfish ways. For this I am sorry, and I ask for Your forgiveness.

I am ready to trust You as my Lord and Savior. Thank you, Jesus, for coming to earth. I believe that You are the Son of God, that You died on the cross for my sins and that after 3 days You rose again.

You did for me what I could not do for myself. Today I come to you and ask You to take control of my life. I freely give it to you. Help me to live every day in ways that please You.

I love you, Lord, and I thank you that I will spend all eternity with you.

In Jesus’ name ~~ Amen

Did Alex’s christian testimony encourage you?  Do you have a Christian Testimony that you would like to share? Did you pray the salvation prayer?

I would love to hear from you in the comments as well as pray for you.

Be blessed 💞💞💞

  1. What a powerful story of God’s redemption and love. I absolutely love reading testimonies. It is was built my faith and eventually led me to my own salvation eleven years ago. I was attending a Freedom class for addictions because I was married to an addict. I wanted to take everything I learned from there to teach him at home. But through it, God saved me. I saw what God was able to do to every classmate that attended that class through the months. It was a beautiful sight to see from the first day of watching almost 20 people walk in that was barely becoming to sober to then months later, finding jobs, getting children back, reuniting with parents, it was just breathtaking!

    1. Thank you for sharing your experience Carmen. Freedom classes are wonderful and lead so many people to freedom. I appreciate your comment – coming from someone who lives in addiction – not due to their being an addict but someone who loves an addict. I believe that people need to hear how God can redeem and restore the person that is affected by someone else’s addiction. If you ever want to share your testimony on my site – let me know. Blessings. 💞💞

  2. Powerful testimony and post, Shelley! So thank you, Alex, for your bravery and vulnerability! I know a couple that still waits on their daughter to turn from her multiple drug addictions–doing life like you’ve done. She has tried to go to rehab a couple of times, but always reverts right back when she is released or “leaves.” I pray she finds Christ and can get her life turned around like you did. I’ll be pinning this one, Shelley! Thanks for sharing these inspiring stories of hope!

    1. Addiction is such a powerful disease that grabs such a firm hold on people. I have worked in addictions for over 25 years and I have witnessed that there is a much higher recovery rate for those who turn to God. I pray for your friends daughter today – Recovery is possible. Blessings. 💞💞

  3. Addiction is so hard to overcome. It’s wonderful to hear a positive story. Even though Alex may continue to struggle from time to time, she has Jesus to lean on. Thank you for sharing this–more people need to hear about this epidemic. Anyone can become hooked with just one use even if they think it will never happen to them.

    1. Yes – addiction can happen to really anyone. Working in the addiction field I saw people from all backgrounds and with different experiences in life. Alex has embraced her relationship with God and has done tremendous work on herself. It warms my heart to see her back with her family and I admire her bravery for sharing her story. Blessings

I would love to hear from you
