Welcome to “Thankful Thursday”. Β Even if you are reading this on another day of the week – it’s okay. Β We can be thankful everyday for something. Β As I reflect today and search my heart I realize that today I am thankful for the “little things” and the “little moments” in my life.

I once read the following quote:

Be thankful

Too often we wait until the “ta-da” moments to occur in our lives before we celebrate. Β If the moment isn’t something “big”, we usually don’t even see it.

We celebrate the milestones in our lives — births, birthdays, graduations, weddings, anniversaries, etc. Β If we get a job promotion or accomplish that “big” goal we recognize it and possibly will even draw attention to it. The truth is these moments are few and often far between. Β If I am only thankful for the “ta-da” moments in my life – sadly I will be living a life of frustration.

Instant society

We want the long term goals to happen in a short period of time. If they are taking longer to achieve than we hoped for, we may even give up on them. We live in a world that is used to instant results and if we don’t see instant results we can become down right cranky.

What do I mean when I say “instant results”?

We have drive thrus for food, coffee and banking. Β I have seen many people upset when the drive thru line wasn’t moving fast enough — after all people have places to go.

In the past few years our local grocery stores have offered online shopping. You can place your order online and pick them up at a designated time. Some even offer to deliver to your home. These are great services and in honesty I have used them in my own life. The problem is sometimes the attitudes people Β have when things go wrong. Β I have been witness to people bashing the stores and the employees because they were running 10 – 15 minutes late. Β I have seen an employee be yelled at because they sent the wrong “brand” of peanut butter. Β Where was the gratefulness for what was done right? How about the time that was saved for you?

Sadly more and more often I am witnessing a lot of self seeking and self entitlement attitudes. I myself have slipped into this mentality and have neglected to see all of the “little things” to be grateful for.

ChallengE

I often challenge my brain to look at things (life) differently. If I change my brain to celebrate the small achievements and recognize the little things in my life — how much happier and content I will be.

I have found that when I spend more time focusing on what I am grateful for, I then spend less time being irritable, annoyed, jealous and envious of what I don’t Β have.

It’s not always easy. Β It can be a challenge and I can get off track. When I do get off track I can always change my focus – if I make that choice.

Choices

The bible tells me :

Thankful Thursday - grateful for the little things

Today I am going to choose life. I am choosing to appreciate the people in my life. Not all of my relationships are “perfect”, however it’s not about perfection. Today I am choosing to respond in love instead of reacting in fear, hurt , insecurity, envy and anger. Today I am going to choose to forgive those who have hurt or harmed me and extend grace. I am choosing to be grateful for the people that God has blessed me with, even those whom have hurt me. Those are the people who have Β blessed me by teaching me grace, compassion, empathy and the power of forgiveness.

Gratitude journal

Today I am choosing to be grateful for all that I have. I have a home to live in, food in my belly and clothes in my closet. Β The truth is I don’t need an abundance of things to make me feel “good” and “happy”. Β If I rely on “things” to fulfill me, I am going to end up disappointed and ultimately unfulfilled.

Today I am choosing to celebrate the non “ta-da” moments. The small achievements in my life. I am grateful for getting a few tasks crossed off my “to do” list and I know that tomorrow is a new day to continue to press forward.

Stop taking things fOr granted – be thankful

Today I am choosing to be grateful for the things I take for granted. The delicious cup of tea I enjoyed while writing this and the fresh air coming through the open windows. I am grateful for the time I have been given to focus on my writing and creating my website. In addition, I am grateful for the support that I have been given in this new venture. I have had friends offer me the use of their pictures and even experiences. Lastly, I am thankful for you — yes you! My heart has been blessed by you choosing to take some time out if your day to read my writing. My prayer for you is that you have been challenged, encouraged and motivated to be the best you that you Β can be.

WHAT IS GODS WORD SAYING TO ME TODAY?

Reading the bible

“Though it is the smallest of all seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds come and perch in its branches.” ~ Matthew 13:32 niv

“For the Lord your God has blessed you in all [a]that you have done; He has known about your wanderings through this great wilderness. These forty years the Lord your God has been with you; you have lacked nothing.”’ ~ Deuteronomy 2:7 amp

“O give thanks to the Lord, for He is good;
For His lovingkindness endures forever.” ~ 1 Chronicles 16:34 amp

What are you thankful for today? Drop me a comment. I would love to hear from you.

Be blessed πŸ’žπŸ’žπŸ’ž

  1. Love this! I often find the middle of the week difficult to come up with ideas. I think I’ll adopt this x

  2. Too often we let little things annoy us instead of celebrating all the amazing little things that are there every day. Many of us take what we have for granted and don’t really appreciate how lucky we are. You’ve inspired me to start a gratitude journal.

    1. I totally agree. Thank you for your kind words. I think it’s awesone that you are going to start a gratitude journal β€” it truly changed my life when I started. There were days that I would struggle with finding things to be grateful for β€” I had to dig deep. This though helped me to start living my life being more intentional – looking for all the things the I could add to my journal that evening. Blessings my friend. πŸ˜€πŸ’žπŸ’ž

  3. Aweee I loved the quotes and omg this is so cute! I love reading these grateful for things kind of posts because I feel like we aren’t as grateful and we should be so reading this made me so happy. I realize how much I have too and appreciate it. This is awesome! Thank you for sharing πŸ™‚

  4. This is such a great reminder for me to hear. Sometimes it’s really hard to see the little things as things to be thankful for, when the big picture goals seem so far away! Today I will be thankful!

It is so important to be thankful for everything…I try to teach my children to appreciate everything they’ve been given. I also like the idea of training your mind to find something to be thankful for in every situation. Some times it’s a little difficult to figure out what to be thankful for, but in most situations…things could always be worse. Thanks for sharing.

  6. You’re so right. It’s important to be thankful for the little things… helps get through when there aren’t any big things happening.

I would love to hear from you
